Family Formation
Enabling Catholic parents to be the primary educators of their children in the faith. Why Family Formation?
06/30/2026
Teaching your kids to show mercy to others doesn’t have to be complicated, sometimes it just takes paper, markers, and a pair of scissors. 🍔✂️
This “Big Mercy Burger” activity is one of our favorites: as kids color, cut, and stack the “ingredients,” they’re learning the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy (feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, comforting the sorrowful, and more).
It’s a hands-on way to show them that mercy isn’t just something we receive, it’s something we’re called to live out every day, with the people right in front of us.
In his letter to families, “Only One Thing Is Necessary,” Archbishop Hebda reminds us that parents are the first and best teachers of the faith for their children:
“In particular, we must form, educate and accompany the youngest members of our families; we must do our part in helping till and cultivate the soil of their precious souls.”
That doesn’t mean you need a theology degree to support your family’s faith formation. Activities like this make it easy to turn an abstract idea like “mercy” into something kids can actually practice.
