Congratulations to Jeffrey Friedman on his promotion to Professor of Government at Dartmouth College. An outstanding political scientist, his research focuses on international security, foreign policy decision making, and public opinion on foreign policy. His 2023 book, The Commander-in-Chief Test: Public Opinion and the Politics of Image-Making in US Foreign Policy, examines how voters evaluate leaders' foreign policy credibility. He also hosts the podcast for International Security, the field's leading journal.

At the The Davidson Institute, Friedman directs the Rosenwald Postdoctoral Fellows Program in U.S. Foreign Policy and International Security — a program he knows from the inside, having been a Rosenwald Fellow himself in 2012–13.

His promotion was among 28 tenure and promotion decisions approved by the Dartmouth Board of Trustees this month across the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
