Juniper Layne Farm is all about growing the best food to nourish those who sit around your table - your family and friends. Juniper Layne Farm is primarily a diversified vegetables farm with some eggs, berries, and cut flowers. All crops are grown in Happy Valley, OR, without the use of pesticides, herbicides, inorganic fertilizers, GMO seeds, or other environmentally harmful practices.
My name is Jen.
Juniper is a nickname given to me by my younger brother when he was in middle school and it stuck. Layne is my middle name. I had mixed feelings about my middle name as a kid, but now I love it. I am Juniper Layne!
My career hasn’t followed a typical path to farming. I have been working for the last 10+ years in the non-profit social service sector. Although my jobs have changed, one constant has been my passion for food. I love to cook and enjoy good food with family and friends. I love documentaries and books about food, food systems, access to food, and local food movements. As this passion has continued to grow and as I see the impact of our industrial food system on our health, I want to be a part of creating positive change in the world by joining the hundreds of other farmers doing the same. This has culminated in taking a giant step in 2019 to pursue a career in farming by launching Juniper Layne Farm. I find so much joy in growing quality produce that will feed my community!
THE FARM
Juniper Layne Farm, started in 2019, is located just outside of Portland, Oregon, in Happy Valley. With about a quarter of an acre in production, I am committed to growing the highest quality vegetables, berries, flowers, and eggs in a sustainable manner. My crops are grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, inorganic fertilizers, GMO seeds, or other environmentally harmful practices. Juniper Layne Farm uses a permanent bed system with minimal tillage to develop healthy soils.
CORE VALUES
Care for creation and honor the Creator by following organic and sustainable farming practices to build healthy soil.
Grow great tasting, beautiful produce for my community. Grow food that stays local and contribute to a sustainable local food system.
Everyone has the right to fresh, nutrient-rich food. Committed to providing fresh produce that is accessible to all people.
Create a welcoming and healing space for all people.
Cultivate gratitude and generosity.
Observe rhythms of rest for people and the land. One day off each week, time off in the winter, and crop rotations that allow the soil to rest and rebuild.
