I couldn't answer all the calls, y'all. Nor texts.😭 Sorry. I LOVE YOU ALL. Then, my phone died. This, as today would be a rare day in which I was on assignment in Brooklyn. With NYC FAM , , and Team when news of LEGEND Cicely Tyson's passing came in from my nephew Herman, am happy I had folks with whom I could process the sad news. I'm EXHALING A BIT NOW (having made it back home). And I simply say THANK YOU TO MS. CICELY TYSON for INSPIRING ME for much ALL of my LIFETIME! Certainly properties like "Sounder" and "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman" moved me, like many. Also her feature in "ROOTS". But don't forget "BUSTIN' LOOSE" with Richard Pryor, now!!!!😂🤣🙌🏾🕺🏽 AND SO MANY MORE AMAZING PERFORMANCES!✊🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 My personal memories of Ms. Tyson - include:
1. INTERVIEWING Ms. Tyson AT Oprah's LEGENDS WEEKEND Luncheon

2. INTERVIEWING Ms. Tyson in NYC about her memories of Oprah's LEGENDS BALL - for the ABC Primetime Special

3. Being an audience with Ms. Tyson for many years in NYC - including her last Tony-award-winning Broadway performance in "Trip to Bountiful" on Broadway (plus a host of other THEATER-themed NYC nights) her recurring appearances in personal designer B. Michael's fashion shows during NYC Fashion Week and more!

4. Ms. Tyson is indeed a WOMAN who INSPIRES ME - and I write as much and more inside the pages of my book “That’s What Friends Are For: On The Women Who Inspired Me” (available to buy via Amazon, B&N, and other book outlets - including Black Book-Sellers).

5. Also, I got to SPEAK MS. TYSON's name during much of my POP CULTURE ANALYSIS on local and global airwaves.

6. Her memoir "Just As I Am" is in BOOKSTORES now - just out January 26, 2021.
