Last evening, another round of severe weather moved through Dauphin County, prompting the issuance of a Tornado Warning for our area. As the storm approached, multiple Swatara Fire-Rescue personnel quickly assembled to staff apparatus and prepare for an increased call volume.
During the storm, our inflatable rescue boats were dispatched to the Borough of Hummelstown to assist with multiple vehicles trapped in floodwaters. Working alongside neighboring fire departments, our crews safely removed several occupants from their vehicles.
With many of the region's water rescue resources already committed to the Hershey and Hummelstown areas, additional mutual aid assets were strategically relocated to ensure continued coverage throughout Dauphin County. Water rescue crews from New Cumberland River Rescue and Dauphin-Middle Paxton Fire Company were repositioned to Station 91-5, where they stood by until it was confirmed that the threat of severe weather had passed.
As a reminder, never drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry away a vehicle. Turn Around, Don't Drown.
