We are big fans of the Shenandoah Rail Trail and are ecstatic over the latest report released by VDOT identifying the estimated costs associated with each option. SRT couldn’t have said it better…”Rail-to-Trail provides the most benefits for the most people, for the least money, in the shortest time.”

We were thrilled to help SRT visually communicate this vision through conceptual design renderings. The section of trail shown here illustrates a scenario where short segments of the proposed trail could maintain remnants of the former rail, providing a great opportunity for story-telling and education around the history of the railway. Preservation of short sections of railway offers a unique opportunity to integrate materials of the past with the needs of today.

We are thrilled to see the recent approval made by Harrisonburg City Council for this DOWNTOWN PARK! We have thoroughly enjoyed leading the design efforts for this vision plan and can’t think of a better group of community-driven advocates to see this park become a reality in the very near future Build Our Park!

There is something special happening in downtown Harrisonburg and we are grateful to be able to partner and walk alongside some of the best individuals and organizations there are!

As often the case with design, we find that projects are far more than just lines on a paper…and the Crist Farm Walking Trails are no different. This once vacant 20 acre property - now made up of multi-purpose trails, overlooks, resting areas, a wooded labyrinth, and an on-going meadow restoration - was an encouraging reminder of how organizations like Bridgewater Retirement Community continue to seek community wellness and relationship, within its walls and out.

As stated on their website, “BRC is a vibrant nonprofit Life Plan Community in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley with a vision to enhance and energize healthy living for our residents and seniors throughout our region. Guided by our core principles of compassion, innovation, and stewardship, we offer the environment, support, and opportunities that empower residents to make the most of every day”.

This ‘private’ development is uniquely special as it extends to their very neighbors and the overall public at large. As a result, the invitation is not only an offer to enjoy this amenity today, but to experience the regenerative transformation of this landscape for years to come.

We are beyond excited to see this vision become reality!

Harrisonburg, VA - Government will receive $14.3
million in federal funds to develop the Downtown Harrisonburg Streetscape and Mobility Transformation project, which will include construction of a 2-way cycle track on Liberty St, which was first proposed as part of the 2040 Downtown Master Plan! Monteverde Engineering & Design Studio, PLC had the distinct pleasure of drafting this component into the plan, along with our collaborators Interface Studio LLC, Merritt Chase, and Ninigret Partners. Congrats to the City of Harrisonburg on this significant step towards plan implementation, thereby improving quality of life for its residents for generations to come!
