In 2023, our application to open a new school in Middletown was ranked the #1 charter school application in the state and approved through the established process.

Yet three years later, despite a law that provides funding for approved charter schools, state leaders are still preventing us from opening our doors.

This is happening in a community with one of the largest educational achievement gaps in Connecticut.

For more than 20 years, Capital Prep has proven that students from underserved communities can achieve at the highest levels. We don’t just talk about closing the achievement gap—we’ve consistently done it.

So if we all agree that educational inequity is a problem, why block a solution that has already been proven to work?

The children of Middletown deserve answers.

We have a Senator doing everything he can to block funding for one of the top-performing schools in the state — a school where 100% of students are accepted into college, many coming from disadvantaged communities.

This school already went through the official review process and was ranked the #1 application. Despite that, funding is still being denied.

Now, we are suing the state over what we believe is an injustice to the children and families of Middletown and surrounding communities who are counting on this opportunity for a quality education and a brighter future.

But this fight takes more DOGS. More people willing to stand up, speak out, and fight for these kids and their future. We need people who truly care about the quality of education our children receive and refuse to stay silent while opportunities are taken away from them.

Quality education should not be political. Every child deserves access to opportunity.
