Mississippi has gone from near the bottom to one of the strongest states in early literacy, especially for low-income students.
But when you look at what they actually did, it doesn’t feel like a miracle. It feels intentional.
📚 A clear focus on how kids are taught to read (phonics, structured literacy)
👩‍🏫 Coaching teachers in real time, not just evaluating them
📊 Tracking student growth
🎯 Staying focused on outcomes
Not just what resources go in, but what results come out.

Appreciate for highlighting this.
As Steven Hernández, Esq. shared, “Under half of our kids are proficient in math—and it’s even worse for kids of color and those in poverty. It’s a crisis.”
