Back-to-School Planning is a Year-Round Commitment - The ISG 07/14/2026

Back-to-School Planning is a Year-Round Commitment

With summer well underway, K-12 and college students, faculty and staff are taking a well-earned break to recharge and gear up for the fall. It’s also the season when security professionals can get in and get busy installing upgrades and retrofits before the new school year starts. It’s a brief window, but thanks to diligent planning throughout the year, the pros are always ready to hit the ground running at the last bell of spring term to make the most out of the limited time available.

A lot goes into studying what to do and where to allocate budgets for improving security at today’s schools. Naturally, no one size fits all. For this article, though, we’ll highlight some things K-12 districts, higher ed institutions, professional organizations, and the security industry are focusing on to improve the safety of campuses and the well-being of those attending, teaching, and supporting them.

PASS K-12 Guideline Updates

For those involved with K-12, expect revisions soon to the current Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) Guidelines. If you’re not familiar with this important organization and their free publications, visit passk12.org to learn more about them.

Is Your MFA Phishing-Resistant? - The ISG 07/07/2026

Is Your MFA Phishing-Resistant?

As cybercrimes skyrocket, more organizations are moving to multi-factor authentication (MFA) for login to critical systems and applications. However, some of the most common forms of MFA, including one-time codes and push notifications, are still vulnerable to sophisticated phishing attacks and other forms of data interception. That’s why emerging cybersecurity standards and cyber insurance requirements are calling for phishing-resistant MFA solutions to further reduce risks related to user authentication.

Problems with One-Time Codes & Push Notifications

MFA methods like one-time codes and push notifications were put in place to reduce risks related to compromised or hacked passwords. MFA adds a second layer of security in the form of an additional authentication factor that must be entered along with the username and password. The most common forms of MFA are time-limited one-time codes (which may be sent via email or SMS text or generated by an authentication app at the time of login) and push notifications sent to a trusted device (such as a smartphone). These phone-based methods of MFA are meant to confirm the identity of the person entering the login credentials; the user must have access to a trusted smartphone/device to complete the login.

The Role of ID Cards in Physical Security - The ISG 06/02/2026

The Role of ID Cards in Physical Security

When it comes to securing a facility, most people think of surveillance cameras, alarm systems, or locked doors. But often overlooked is one of the simplest and most powerful tools in any security strategy: the ID card.

Modern ID cards do far more than identify a person – they act as digital keys, access permissions, time-tracking tools, and visual security aids. Whether you’re protecting a school, hospital, government building, or corporate office, ID cards play a central role in controlling access and enhancing safety.

In this blog, we explore how ID cards contribute to physical security and why they’re essential to any access control system.
