This pest is an issue at the rancher level! It affects the live animal through entering open wounds like umbilical cords, cuts or scrapes.

Now, this affects ALL animals - wildlife, livestock AND pets. So keep an eye on any wounds your animals may incur.

Screwworm has technically been in the US since the 1800s. My video timelines refer to its migration and eradication to Florida specifically. There are medical treatments now available on a large-scale basis unlike availability back in the day.

All farm agencies have also enacted safety protocols on animals crossing into Florida as well. Steps are being taken!

But the main message is this; YOUR beef is safe!
