School pupils in Kono are calling on the authorities and all relevant stakeholders to urgently resolve the issues that have led to the suspension of the Kono School Bus service.

The bus, which helps many children get to school safely, is currently parked at Tankoro Police Station. Pupils are appealing for a quick solution so the service can resume as soon as possible.

More than 10 Chinese nationals have been intercepted at the Mambudu Checkpoint in Kono District while reportedly travelling to Kumaroh Village for gold and diamond mining without the required work and residence permits.

They have been handed over to the Sierra Leone Police in Koidu for investigation. The operation is part of the Government’s nationwide crackdown to enforce labour and immigration laws and ensure all foreign nationals comply with legal requirements before living or working in Sierra Leone.

The Government of Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 has officially announced a reduction in public transport fares following the recent drop in fuel pump prices.

Updated Transport Fares:
🚌 Wellington ➡️ Eastern Police: Le 8 ➜ Le 7
🚌 Calaba Town ➡️ Goderich Street: Le 9 ➜ Le 8
🚌 Lumley ➡️ Regent Road: Le 7 ➜ Le 6
🚌 Waterloo ➡️ Bombay: Le 16 ➜ Le 14
🚌 Jui ➡️ Lumley: Le 22 ➜ Le 12

Passengers are advised to take note of these new fares and ensure they pay only the approved amounts. Transport operators are also expected to comply with the revised pricing.

• Petrol: NLe 33.00 per litre
• Diesel: NLe 35.00 per litre

Officials say they will continue monitoring global prices and adjust local rates when necessary to safeguard consumers and the economy.
