One of our favorite parts of coaching is watching someone go all in on something new.

Paul Jefferis has been coaching Josh for a few years. And after stepping away from jiu-jitsu, he decided he wanted to see what he could do in Strongman.

We talked through what that would take, and completely changed the way he was training over the last few months to get him ready.

The goal for his first competition wasn’t to win. It was to gain experience, hit some PRs, and figure out what needed work before the next one.

I’d say that was a success.

✅ 4th out of 12 in his first Strongman competition.
✅ Qualified for Nationals.
✅ Missed the podium by only 2 points.

Now we know exactly what to improve before the next one.

That’s what good coaching is. It’s not guessing or chasing random workouts. It’s having a plan, making adjustments along the way, and showing up prepared when it matters.

Poor sleep doesn’t just make you tired.

It changes how your body processes pain.

Research has shown that even ONE night of sleep deprivation can increase pain sensitivity the following day. Sleep loss is also associated with:

* increased inflammation
* reduced recovery capacity
* higher stress hormone output
* amplified muscle tension
* nervous system dysregulation

One review published in The Journal of Pain even described sleep and pain as having a “bidirectional relationship” — meaning poor sleep increases pain, and pain further disrupts sleep.

That cycle is more common than people realize.
