π Happy 50th Anniversary to the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. How was Jennings Randolph involved? ππΌ See the brief timeline below:
β 1946 - Congressman Jennings Randolph's bill to create a National Air Museum is signed into law by Harry S. Truman.
π 1964 - Now Senator Randolph testifies before the Senate Rules subcommittee to encourage a name change and funding for construction of the museum.
π 1966 - The original law is amended to allow for the museum construction and a name change to include the history of spaceflight. It is signed into law by President Lyndon Baines Johnson.
π·πΌββοΈ 1972 - Senator Randolph is one of several dignitaries to shovel dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony for the museum building.
π 1976 - Senator Randolph is one of several dignitaries on stage with President Gerald Ford as the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution officially opens.
