🔧✨ Build It! Camp was a blast last week! ✨🔧

Our young engineers spent the week creating, tinkering, and bringing big ideas to life at MLC! Campers explored the amazing world of simple machines—gears, levers, pulleys, and more—while discovering how engineering helps power everyday life.

From problem-solving challenges to designing their own take-home structures, these curious builders showed off creativity, teamwork, and plenty of “aha!” moments. We loved watching their imaginations turn into something amazing!

Meet Leah Fulmer! 🌞🔭✨

Leah is heading into her junior year at Montana State University, where she’s majoring in astrophysics and minoring in mathematics. This summer, she’s bringing her love of space, science, and discovery to the Montana Learning Center at Canyon Ferry Lake as an astronomy intern!

Leah’s main project is seriously stellar: she’s working with a spectroheliograph, an instrument that lets her study the Sun in very specific wavelengths of light. By capturing solar images in bands like H-alpha, Leah can observe amazing features that don’t show up in regular white-light images, including prominences, filaments, and active regions.

Through this hands-on work, Leah is building skills in astronomical instrumentation, spectroscopy, imaging, and data analysis — all while helping us better understand our nearest star. ☀️

We’re so excited to have Leah on the MLC astronomy team this summer!
