Before we gather with family and give thanks, here’s a quick but important reminder about turkey fryer safety. Every year, thousands of home fires start from deep-frying turkeys — most of them are completely preventable.
If you're using a turkey fryer this year, PLEASE keep your family and home safe by following these steps:
🔥 Turkey Fryer Safety Tips
• Never use a turkey fryer indoors, in a garage, or even on a covered porch.
• Keep the fryer at least 10 feet away from your home, cars, shed, or deck.
• Make sure the turkey is completely thawed and dry before lowering it into the oil — water causes dangerous oil splatter and overheating.
• Use a fryer on a flat, stable surface, ideally concrete — never on grass.
• Slowly lower the turkey into the oil to avoid splash-over.
• Keep children and pets far away from the cooking area.
• Monitor the oil temperature closely — overheated oil leads to fires.
• Have a fire extinguisher ready (NOT water — water makes oil fires explode).
• Turn off the burner before putting turkey in or taking it out.
• Never leave a fryer unattended — even for a moment.
