Last week, we announced our keynote speaker. Today, we are excited to share our banquet speaker for our 2025 meeting in Fort Myers, Florida! Dr. Harvey B. Lillywhite is a renowned herpetologist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, celebrated for his extensive research in the physiological ecology of amphibians and reptiles. His work focuses on integrative studies of morphology, behavior, and physiology, with a particular emphasis on the water balance and ecological adaptations of marine snakes.

Among his notable publications is the Dictionary of Herpetology (2008), a comprehensive reference featuring over 11,000 entries central to the biology of amphibians and reptiles. In 2014, he authored How Snakes Work: Structure, Function, and Behavior of the World's Snakes, an in-depth exploration of snake biology designed for both specialists and enthusiasts. Dr. Lillywhite also co-edited Islands and Snakes: Isolation and Adaptive Evolution (2019) and Islands and Snakes: Diversity and Conservation (2022), both examining the evolutionary trajectories and conservation challenges of insular snake populations.

His recent work, Discovering Snakes in Wild Places: Stories of Passion, Adventure, and Science (2022), blends personal narratives with scientific insights, reflecting his lifelong dedication to herpetology. Throughout his prolific career, Dr. Lillywhite has significantly advanced the understanding of reptilian physiology and ecology, particularly regarding marine snakes' reliance on freshwater sources and their behavioral adaptations.
