Lincoln County Deputy Michael Hargrave Arrested on Charges of Communicating Threats and Cyberstalking

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2026, on misdemeanor charges of communicating threats and cyberstalking.

Deputy Michael Hargrave was taken into custody by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. A criminal domestic violence protection order was also issued in the case.

According to the arrest warrant, Hargrave sent threatening messages on Friday, May 1. In one message, he reportedly wrote:

> “Also, I’m [a] mean and vindictive person… Think you know that… We’re in defense right now… But soon as it’s over and we win, I’m going on the attack and I’m not gna be satisfied until they are both crushed and bleeding… Just so you know, fully plan to defend but as soon as it’s over I’m going full violent ruin your life kinda offense.”

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they have placed Deputy Hargrave on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

In a statement, Sheriff McFadden said:
> “Any time a member of law enforcement is arrested, it is difficult for everyone involved. All law enforcement personnel are sworn to uphold the law fairly and professionally, regardless of a person’s title, position or agency. This incident is a reminder that accountability applies to all of us who wear the badge. We will continue to handle this matter with the same integrity, transparency and respect that our community expects.”

Hargrave is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center – Central.

The investigation is ongoing. No additional details about the alleged victim or specific circumstances have been released at this time.
