We wanted to provide an update on the process for naming the new elementary school in eastern Burke County.

The Burke County Board of Education is currently reviewing its policy regarding the naming of school facilities after individuals. As part of that review, the Board has asked that the school naming process be paused until it has completed its work and determined whether any revisions to the policy are needed.

Once the Board has finalized its review, additional guidance will be provided to the naming committee, if necessary, and the naming process will resume.

We appreciate the time and input already provided by students, staff, parents, community members, and the naming committee. Additional updates will be shared as they become available.

The next BCPS school bus driving class is next week, June 8 through June 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Classes are held at BCPS Central Office at 700 E. Parker Rd. Call the bus garage at 828-437-4770 to sign up.
