FEEDBACK FROM HAWAIʻI RESIDENTS SOUGHT TO IMPROVE INTERNET RELIABILITY
(HILO, HAWAIʻI July 10, 2024) - Echoing the need by broadband advocates for digital equity, ʻAuamo Collaborative is relaunching an effort to enhance internet access in Hawaiʻi. ʻAuamo Collaborative is seeking input from residents across the state to help determine the internet connectivity gaps by taking its High-Speed Test here
"We believe that every resident of Hawaiʻi deserves access to high-quality broadband services, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status," said Brad Kaleo Bennett, ʻAuamo Collaborative Executive Director. “This survey is a vital step towards understanding the specific needs and challenges faced by communities across the islands, allowing us to tailor our advocacy efforts and initiatives accordingly.”
Broadband technology allows users to access the internet using high-speed transmission methods. It is faster and more reliable than traditional internet connections. By soliciting input directly from residents, ʻAuamo hopes to gain a comprehensive understanding of the nuances surrounding broadband access in Hawaiʻi and identify actionable strategies for improvement.
The survey covers a range of topics, including current internet usage patterns, perceived barriers to access, satisfaction levels with existing broadband services, and resident feedback.
"We encourage all residents of Hawaiʻi to participate in this survey and make their voices heard," added Bennett. "Whether you reside in urban centers or rural areas your input is invaluable in shaping the future of broadband connectivity in our state. Online activity is critical for everyday use – whether for health, education, or gaming, it has become an essential need for many of us."
The findings of the survey will be compiled and analyzed by a team of experts, with the results used to inform policy recommendations, infrastructure investments, and community-driven initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide in Hawaiʻi. Residents are asked to take and share the survey, which is available now.
In recognizing this need, ʻAuamo Collaborative and partners will use survey results to harness the collective experiences of Hawaiʻi's residents to inform policies and initiatives that address connectivity capabilities and promote digital inclusion.
