This past weekend, 27 homeless dogs and cats from rural areas of The Everglades departed Florida aboard two transports for no-kill shelters and adoption to safe, loving, and forever homes. The Pegasus Foundation and Cold Noses Foundation, which form the Everglades Animals Coalition (EAC) and the partners EAC funds-Barbi Moline from Nala's New Life Rescue, and Jessie Pena, along with the Darbster Foundation, all lended their expertise and hearts to saving these lives. It certainly takes a village to herd cats! Twenty lucky felines were saved from a certain death in rural southeastern Florida where the heat index hit 118 degrees last week, by the rescue partners we fund at Nala's New Life Rescue. Famed wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin headlined a joint fundraiser for The Pegasus Foundation and The New England Wildlife Center on Wednesday, July 19th, at The Beach Club on Cape Cod. This weekend, The Pegasus Foundation funded the work of Barbi Moline, Founder of Nala's New Life Rescue in Palm City, Florida, who rescues several dozen abandoned and feral cats and kittens from sweltering conditions in Okeechobee County, a rural, poverty-stricken area. In her own words, Barbi said, “We rescued this little 2 pound kitten from Okeechobee and he was so dehydrated he has spent the week at our vet. He is finally better and should be able to travel on the transport. The heat there is unbearable for the animals. He is pictured here with a vet tech at our vet.”
