Dropping to my knees and opening my Bible to Matthew 26:26–29, the “Institution of the Lord’s Supper,” I read the words of Christ: “Take, eat; this is my body.” “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

As I took communion in that moment, these words of Christ were transformational for me.

Thomas Aquinas says a sacrament is a sacred sign that sanctifies man. It points to the passion of Christ. It points to the grace we receive, and it points to future glory.

These are mysteries that words can only attempt to communicate. I pray for more reverence, deeper study, and deeper revelation of the Eucharist.

In that moment, eternity brushed the edges of the present.. an encounter with the living God, too near for words to hold.
