Curry Barker wrote, directed, and edited Obsession at 26, straight from YouTube horror shorts. He shot the film in 20 days on a $750,000 budget with no studio behind him. After the festival premiere, studios fought over it and Focus paid $15 million.

Obsession went on to $371.2 million worldwide, and Barker already has his next original horror set up at Universal and Blumhouse. The limits did not slow him down, they forced the choices that made the film work.
