Kites are fascinating objects that can take flight due to the principles of aerodynamics. The key is the balance of forces acting upon the kite: lift, drag, gravity, and tension.

Firstly, a kite needs wind to generate lift. When wind flows over the surface of the kite, it creates a difference in pressure between the front and the back of the kite. The increased pressure on the underside and the reduced pressure on the top side result in an upward force, known as lift.

Gravity, on the other hand, pulls the kite downwards. The balance between lift and gravity determines the vertical position of the kite. Drag is the resistance caused by the air as the kite moves through it, which slows down the kite's flight.

Lastly, tension is the force exerted by the string that's held by the kite flyer. By manipulating the tension, the flyer can control the kite's direction and height.

So, a kite takes flight when the lift generated by the wind surpasses the force of gravity. The tension in the string and the drag from the air help control the kite's movement, allowing it to dance in the sky.

Finally the boys are getting the age where we can take this page seriously.

When you fly a kite do you ever wonder who else got to see it and pointed it out to someone else. I keep my eye out for Kite flyers where ever I can find them, what interests me the most is what I learn as a result.

Until about 5 minutes ago my lifes path, had not lead me to believe that there was a place called Okotoks in Alberta Canada and if it wasn't for the fact that they thought flying kites would be a good way to get their community together I would have passed them by instead now I am mad googling them to see else they have to share.

Of course it does help of you believe that the seemingly random minor events that reach out and touch you should not be completely ignored. This I believe is what people mean by taking the time in life to stop and look around you once in a while.
