[britni] this little rascal tried to break into our basement door last night 😂 it didn’t manage to get in but did slobber and get nose prints all over the window. My favorite moose encounter ever 💜

[britni] congrats Alec for WINNING the 2026 migration 5k run with with a 🤯 time of 17:03!!
We had three salties in this race because somehow I’ve convinced Casey to run with us - he had the coolest photo finish 📸🐎 - see our salt squad all lined up together at the start, so fun! Stay salty [&sweaty] out there y’all. Xo.
Ps. I have started experimenting with an Alaska Salt Co. electrolyte mix for my salty sweaters out there. stay tuned.

[britni] after 8 years of hiring (and firing) people, these are the lessons I have learned: I don’t look at resumes & I don’t talk to reference people unless I know them personally.
What you see in this photo is a super casual FaceTime on my phone “interview” with a potential employee (me doing all the talking and Holly taking notes since I’ll never remember all the little details that super matter).
I got a text via a word of mouth lead from someone who was interested in working with us, I replied and asked “Can you do a FaceTime interview in 10 minutes?” That they said yes, was already a +1. Holly and I were playing store in the Spit Shop when we did this impromptu interview and Casey snapped a pic of us (good job doing a content, Casey).
Within the first 1 minute of talking with someone, I’ve typically already made my decision about hiring them or not.
Here’s what I look for:
Are they genuine? Do they smile? Are they excited about the opportunity or are they just going through the motions? Do they have polite manners? Can they follow simple instructions through the “interview” process? Do they seem generally nice and pleasant?
That’s pretty much all I need to know. We can teach the rest.
I lean into my intuition rather than scrutinizing resumes and calling rando people who are going to tell me what I want to hear. And I have to say, this approach has not let me down. We have the bestest salt squad ever and I could not be more grateful for our team. We have done WAY more hiring than firing and hope to keep up our good record.
Ps funny story, a bazillion years ago after we hired Holly, she was a little peeved when she found out that I never even glanced at her resume she had so tediously spruced up, (though we didn’t ask for it and she provided one anyway - so Holly always going above and beyond) lol. I already knew she was hired long before then and now she has been an owning partner in this biz for 4(?) years. Lucky us 🥰.
Happy hiring season Alaskans! Trust your guts out there.

We have been having some wild weather this winter!
Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament – Harbor Conditions Update, March 20, 2026
Like much of Alaska, Homer continues to experience unusually cold temperatures for this time of year. These conditions over the past several days have increased the thickness of ice in the side areas of the harbor, and very little of that ice has moved out.
While the extended forecast is beginning to improve—with daytime temperatures expected to reach the upper 20s and 30s this weekend—overnight lows are still forecast to remain in the teens. Based on current harbor conditions and the forecast, it is highly unlikely that the ice will clear sufficiently to safely hold the tournament on the 28th.
As a result, the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament will be postponed to Saturday, April 4, 2026.
This decision ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for our anglers while also providing clarity for travel and work planning. We recognize that moving the tournament into April means anglers will need to follow the fishing regulations that take effect on April 1. Holding the tournament in March is always our goal, but this year’s weather and harbor conditions present too many safety concerns to do so
responsibly.
The Tournament has been delayed 8 times in its history: 4 times it was delayed one day, 3 times one week, and it has not been delayed 2 weeks since the very first tournament in 1994.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges. The safety of our anglers, participants, and harbor users remains our highest priority.
If you are currently registered and unable to attend on April 4, please email
[email protected] with your name, team name, and best contact information.
Updates will be sent directly to registered and past tournament anglers. You can also follow the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament on Facebook and Instagram for the latest information, or contact the Homer Chamber of Commerce at 907-235-7740.
Thank you for your continued support of the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament.
