A 26-year-old Iranian protester was reportedly given just 10 minutes to say goodbye to his family after authorities told them he was going to be executed.

His name is Erfan Soltani. He was arrested during Iran’s recent wave of anti-government protests and, according to his family and human rights groups, was sentenced to death after a rushed process that offered no real access to legal counsel and no meaningful due process. His family says they were warned that speaking publicly could lead to their own arrest.

For days, reports indicated his ex*****on was imminent. International outrage followed. Then Iranian officials abruptly claimed the ex*****on had been “postponed” and denied plans to execute protesters, statements that directly conflict with what his family was told.

As of now, there is no independent confirmation that Erfan has been executed, but there is also no transparency, no proof of safety, and no reason to trust official assurances from a regime with a documented history of executing protesters behind closed doors.
