Folate is a type of vitamin necessary for the body. Abnormal folate levels cause health problems, for instance deficiency of folate causes anemia, and has very harmful effects for pregnant women as it impairs the healthy development of the fetus. This vitamin is necessary in the synthesis of the red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets. The Folate test checks the blood sample and is different from the complete blood count (CBC) test. The treatment for folate deficiency mostly consists of folate supplements or changes in the diet. Vitamin B12 is essential for the absorption and utilization of folate in the body. So, a deficiency of vitamin B12 increases the folate levels in the body.
