Lions & tigers &… bleach? Oh my!
We all love bleach, especially to rid of pesky mold and mildew in the shower. But beware, not all grout is created equal and the prolonged exposure to bleach required for a deep clean can eventually erode and damage grout if done too often. So we only like to do this sparingly.
First thing to know: NEVER USE BLEACH ON COLORED GROUT!
Here, because of the excess buildup and the white grout we diluted a little bleach with water, let it sit a few minutes, added in some elbow grease and rinsed thoroughly.
Vinegar and baking soda can be a great alternative to bleach, especially for colored grout. Mix up a paste, rub it into the grout, elbow grease, and rinse. But like bleach, prolonged use of vinegar can damage grout.
Your best option is to regularly clean, disinfect AND DRY your shower to avoid any buildup that will require an aggressive clean. To choose a product suitable for regular cleaning take into consideration the grout type and color, the shower/tub material (stone, tile, etc.) and read the labels!
