EXCERPT FROM MY UPCOMING BOOK

“You sure she wasn’t a willing participant?” one of them asked, his brow furrowing.

The air left my lungs. “She has a cognitive disability. She doesn’t understand consent!” I snapped, my voice rising despite the lump in my throat.

The officer exchanged a glance with his partner before sighing. “Physically, she looks fine. She looks... normal.”

Rage burned in my chest. “You don’t get it. Just because she looks like an adult doesn’t mean she has the mind of one. She can’t read, she doesn’t understand time, she still needs help getting dressed. She trusts people because she doesn’t know any better. He took advantage of that.”

They didn’t see her vulnerability. They didn’t see the little girl who still loved baby dolls and bedtime cartoons. They only saw her body, not the innocence he stole.

This is my story—a mother’s worst nightmare turned into reality. A story of betrayal, heartbreak, and the fight for justice after I discovered that a man I once trusted had violated my disabled daughter.
