New intake alert: Whiskey!
Whiskey is not on our website quite yet, but we had to introduce him because he has already made a very good first impression.
He is 2 years old, loves people, loves other dogs, loves the pool, and believes everyone he meets should immediately stop what they are doing and pet him. While we were getting to know him, he leaned his whole body into people for attention, handed out kisses, played beautifully with another dog, and then calmly laid down in the lobby.
He is playful, social, smart, and even lies down nicely while being brushed, which is helpful because this handsome boy does come with some complimentary shedding.
Whiskey’s profile will be on our website soon, but we have a feeling he will not stay a secret for long.

This morning, Dr. Amanda Hanna scrubbed in for another day of spay/neuter surgeries, something she's done thousands of times.
So why were so many of us beaming with excitement?
Because today, those surgeries took place right here at Friends For Life, something we've dreamed about for years.
How did we get here?
A year ago, thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we were able to purchase a mobile surgical unit. It took another year to outfit it, train our team, and prepare for this moment.
Today begins a new chapter.
The Rubin Mobile Surgical Unit will allow us to provide more care in-house, helping animals receive diagnostics and treatment faster and at a lower cost.
Today alone, those 25 surgeries saved Friends For Life $2,130 in spay/neuter costs.
Our heartfelt thanks to Dee Rubin, whose inaugural gift launched this journey, and to every donor who helped make this dream a reality.
We're also deeply grateful to Dr. Amanda Hanna of Houston Spay Neuter for generously volunteering her time to train our team and perform today's first surgeries. And to Dr. Roberto Treviño, our medical director, for helping us prepare for this successful day.
All 25 surgeries went well, and 23 cats and 2 dogs are now recovering.
Thank you for celebrating this milestone with us. We can't wait to share more stories from the Rubin Mobile Surgical Unit in the months ahead. 💜

The Gemstones have entered the chat 💎
Not those Gemstones, but close enough.
Kelvin Gemstone and Aimee-Leigh Gemstone have already been adopted, which means Amber Gemstone and Eli Gemstone are still waiting for their moment to shine.
Amber Gemstone is currently in a foster home and thriving. She’s settling in beautifully, showing off her sweet side, and making a very strong case for why she deserves a forever home that understands she is precious cargo.
Eli Gemstone is still on medical hold, so he is not available just yet. We’re giving him the time and care he needs before his official debut, but with a name like Eli Gemstone, we’re expecting big main character energy.
They are not bonded and are each looking for their own forever home, but the Gemstone family tree is clearly thriving.
Amber Gemstone is available for adoption now, Eli is getting the care he needs, and please hold for Uncle Baby Billy’s debut.
