These photos are from last October's National Forum: Engaging Workers and Businesses for Mutual Gain in Oklahoma City, where Capital IDEA Houston joined employers, workforce leaders, and workers from across the country to discuss one important question:
How can we create workplaces where workers feel heard, valued, and supported?
As part of the Worker Voice Pilot Project, participants shared findings, exchanged ideas, and explored strategies that can improve job quality, strengthen workplace culture, and help employers retain talent.
We're grateful to have been part of these conversations and excited to share the results of this work with our community.
Read our latest blog to learn more about the project findings and what they mean for employers and workers alike.

Thank you to our organizers at https://www.mechanism.community/ , our fellow collaborators, and especially the employers and workers who participated in this project. Your experiences, insights, and willingness to share openly made this work possible. The findings and lessons from this report are a direct reflection of your voices, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside you.

Recently, Michelle Paul, CEO of Capital IDEA Houston, and Annica Gorham, Director of Strategic Development, had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Mechanism National Gathering in Philadelphia!
The conference, hosted by Mechanism (formerly the Urban Manufacturing Alliance), brought together changemakers from across the country to discuss the future of local production, workforce development, and community-driven economic growth.
This year’s theme, “Imagining the Future of Local Production,” focused on topics like worker power, shared ownership, climate adaptation, and building stronger local economies — all of which connect closely to the work we do at Capital IDEA Houston as we help individuals access education, career training, and life-changing opportunities.
We’re grateful for opportunities to learn, collaborate, and bring new ideas back to Houston as we continue supporting pathways to economic mobility for our community. 💙
