Following a major outage in Northern California, urgent partial discharge testing was needed to help assess equipment condition. After receiving a call on New Year’s Eve, our team mobilized and was on site within two days to begin testing. That work led to a second project later in January, with nine technicians from Southern California, Texas, Northern California, and Washington completing on-line partial discharge testing at 28 substations in just three days.

Across both efforts, nearly 1,000 assets were evaluated for insulation defects, one of the leading causes of medium-voltage equipment failure. The testing identified 15 critical items, giving the customer valuable insight into where corrective action should be prioritized and helping target maintenance efforts more effectively.

Partial discharge testing can play an important role in identifying issues early, especially when utilities need actionable data to focus maintenance and improve reliability.

Recently, our team took on and completed commissioning support for a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility in Arizona. Working alongside another testing firm on site, they helped verify that the critical equipment was protected and ready for reliable operation.
Scope of work included:
• Cable testing
• Transformer protection testing
• Nitrogen fill ups
• Transformer oil sampling
• CT Testing

By validating performance and protection systems early, this work helps reduce risk during energization and supports long term reliability for the facility.
