We Bought A Church In The Heights! 😀

What if a church property could become a launching pad for future churches?

That's why the Union Baptist Association purchased the former Norhill Baptist Church property at 3600 Michaux. Not simply to own a building, but to preserve a strategic gospel footprint in one of Houston's fastest-growing neighborhoods.

As property values continue to rise, opportunities for new churches become harder to find. We believe future generations deserve a place where churches can be planted, leaders can be developed, and the gospel can continue to take root in The Heights.

This purchase was made possible through the generosity, vision, and partnership of churches, donors, and ministry friends who believe Houston needs more healthy churches.

The property has been secured.
Now the work of multiplication begins.

Join us in praying, giving, and helping bring churches back to The Heights.

The popularity of June as "pride month" can feel complex for Christians. How can we love God and our neighbors well while also holding firm to biblical truth about gender and sexuality?

In this article from the archives, Counselor Gene Burrus offers 7 ways for Christians to pray and live well during Pride month:
🏳️‍🌈 1. Use Pride flags and symbols as prompts to pray.
❤️ 2. Ask God to give you a missionary heart for LGBTQ+ people.
🤝 3. Seek to embody God’s kind and patient disposition to sinners (like you).
👧 4. Pray for children to receive godly, healthy teaching about sexuality and gender.
🙏 5. Petition God about our ruling authorities, so that we might continue a life of peace.
🧎‍➡️ 6. Intercede for Christians with same-sex attraction or gender incongruence.
👋 7. Prayerfully consider how you might show hospitality to LGBTQ+ people in your life.

What is deconstruction and exvangelicalism?

In this article from the archives, Andrew Jennings, Professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, offers 8 things churches should know about these movements:
🤔 "Deconstruction" is hard to define because many will experience it differently.

🤳 Social media provides community for those asking questions about their faith

😶 Most people deconstructing their faith won't talk about it openly until they've reached some sort of conclusion

📣 Vocal "exvangelicals" may make the headlines, but overt antagonism doesn't tend to characterize the trend.

🧱 The stumbling block for deconstuctionists is more often Christians and their behavior than Christianity as a whole.

🩹 Most people begin to doubt from a place of pain (rather than an intellectual exercise)

🗣️ Deconstructionists won't be argued out of it since it's not primarily about intellectual objections.

⛪ Churches and leaders must consider how their discipleship can prevent deconstruction before it starts.
