Online scammer took money

I was playing on a gambling website(the site is well known and popular among the community) the website I’m question uses steam (the gaming application) to login and out, I made a new steam account and didn’t use 2FA, long story short my account got hacked and the email and password got changed and the scammer withdrew 120$ from the website in crypto (not bothered about the money) but when I went to recover the account it said the email it got changed to so I emailed it and the scammer knew that the account was 13 days old and he knew always/only logged into that website, so I’m just wanting to know how is this possible and is there anything I need to do to protect myself from this happening?

My mom got scammed out of 15k. Any resources for support?

My mom gave 15k in cash to a scammer who told her my younger sister was in jail. She went to the bank, withdrew the cash and gave it to a courier. The scammer was pretty sophisticated. He had someone to play my sister and sent my mom official looking documents. He also created a sense of urgency by claiming that the reason my sister was in jail was because she hit a pregnant woman with her car and that woman was having a miscarriage. He pretended as though the money would help reduce charges so that my sister could be bailed out faster. Just terrible stuff. My mom is a bright person, still works full time and is the single best human being I know . Her panic and love for my sister just blinded her.

Now that she’s realized the scam, she feels angry and stupid. She’s been to the local police and reported the courier’s license plate. Is there any other recourse for her? Are there any supports out there for people who have been scammed? Or even whose parents were scammed? The whole thing makes me feel sad and worried about my mom. It makes me think about her age and cognitive abilities. She’s in her early sixties so I didn’t really think this was an issue I needed to consider
