On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Norris Conference Center at Houston CityCentre, Center for Advanced Legal Studies (CALS) held its 77th Commencement Ceremony for graduates of its paralegal programs. This was the first live graduation event held by CALS since August 2022. It was great to see so many of CALS’ graduates walk to receive their certificates and degrees in person.

Due to the large number of graduates residing outside the Houston area, not all graduates, their friends, and families could attend the live event. Now, using video captured at the live event along with additional content designed specifically for virtual delivery, CALS will host a separate Graduation Live Stream on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM on YouTube.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Doyle R. Happe, co-founder and long-time Director of Center for Advanced Legal Studies | Paralegal.edu.

Doyle’s vision, leadership, and unwavering belief in paralegal education shaped this institution and touched the lives of thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and staff over the decades. He cared deeply about people—especially students—and took pride in helping others build meaningful careers.

Beyond his professional legacy, Doyle was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, sense of humor, and genuine commitment to helping others excel.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact will continue to be felt through the community he helped build and the lives he helped change.

Rest in peace, Doyle Happe. You will be deeply missed and always remembered.
