KPRC 2's Health Reporter

Dear Friends,
After twelve incredible years as your health reporter at KPRC, this is my final week. The time has come for me to say goodbye.
It has been a remarkable journey. You’ve watched me grow personally and professionally. I’ve hugged some of you when we’ve crossed paths because you feel like we are old friends and that warmth and appreciation has kept me going in this business when times were tough.
The week I started at KPRC is the same week Ebola landed in Dallas, and I was off with a sprint trying to report complicated conditions with as much calmness as possible. Since then, we’ve been through so many historical events together: several biblical storms and a global pandemic. I’ve won awards for my reporting on mental health and last year I was awarded the best health reporter in Texas by the Texas Medical Association. Through my reporting, I’ve also gotten the attention of lawmakers and Erin Brockovich to focus on the safety of Houston’s drinking water.
Together, we have tackled some of the most pressing health issues, celebrated the incredible stories of resilience, and shared vital information that empowers us all to make healthier choices. Your trust has made every early morning worthwhile. The majority of my years with KPRC were spent waking up in the middle of the night to be on TV by 5A. So, moving forward, I’m going to take a step in the direction of choosing my own health and family. I’m going to start sleeping through the nights. I’m going to be better rested for my kids. I’m going to choose fewer urgent deadlines to lower my own stress and be more available to my family without feeling chronically exhausted.
While it has been challenging to keep pushing myself through a stressful career, it’s also tough to step away…
Misinformation is rampant, and the value of reliable, community-focused journalism cannot be overstated. The individuals who remain in local news are here for the right reasons: to serve our community, to educate, to keep you safe and to share our love for Houston. Local news isn’t glamorous, they wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the right reasons. Please appreciate them.
Engage with those who are passionate about sharing the truth and informing our community. Your voice matters, and by championing local media, you help foster a more informed and connected Houston.
Thank you once again for being such a significant part of my life. I will always cherish the memories and stories we’ve shared, so please continue to stop me and say hello, it reminds me that this crazy ride was worth it.
Cheers to good health 🥂 and maybe writing more children’s books 📚✨ https://a.co/d/01HD3Ofe
