Girl Scouts Founded March 12, 1912
Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts (originally the Girl Guides of America) on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia. Inspired by Sir Robert Baden-Powell’s scouting movement in England, she organized the first troop of 18 girls to promote outdoor activities, self-reliance, and service.
The Girl Scout motto is "Be Prepared," which encourages members to be ready to serve in any situation and to know how to do their job well, even in an emergency. This tradition highlights a commitment to readiness, service, and skill-building.
Certainly “Be Prepared” is a motto for our times.

March: Women's History Month
March is designated as Women's History Month to honor the often-overlooked contributions, achievements, and, courage of women in American history and society. Originating from a 1978 local celebration in California, it was established to coincide with International Women's Day on March 8 and was declared a national month by Congress in 1987.
