I'm noticing the power of guilt and the effects it has on people's lives. Can't help but compare it to a thief. I love seeing people get back what guilt has stolen from them!

Have you ever felt really bad for something and tried to explain how you didn't mean it that way? Or attempted to show your good intentions so the person gets you were not intending harm?

It can definitely be tough to hear that you hurt someone's feelings, especially when you were not trying to. The harm when this occurs is that there is a lack of space given to the person whose feelings got hurt.

Remember both can be true. You can have the greatest intentions AND still hurt someone unintentionally. Give space when this happens and hear the person out.

Disagreements and differences are inevitable in relationships. Stay ahead of them by being more proactive and decreasing escalations.

Here are Four Possible Tips:

1. Schedule check in conversations with your partner. If possible, once a week even if it's just for 30 minutes. Share how you are doing, what's affecting you, what you are loving and know how they feel as well. Give each other feedback on what is working and what can be better.

2. I notice that sometimes people speak up about needing help or when something is bothering them after bottling it in for some time. Understand when your battery is decreasing and voice as it's decreasing instead of waiting until you are at a zero. This helps with communication and is a great tool to help tackle a possible fight.

3. Sometimes proactive tools don't go as planned and fights happen. If you find yourself in fight territory, be proactive with de-escalations! Learn when communication is being unproductive and not headed in the best direction. It's okay to take a break. Reassure your partner that right now a time out is the best thing for the relationship.

4. Sit down with your partner BEFORE an important event, gathering, vacation, or transition and discuss expectations. What are you hoping for? What would you like to see? Are you needing something? Being on the same page is important and get ahead by having a talk before.
