Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending three hours on Galveston Island with 51 German visitors here for the FIFA World Cup, and I have to say it was one of those tours that reminds me why I love what I do.
Galveston is a place that rewards curiosity. Between its complicated history, the devastating 1900 Storm, the stunning Victorian architecture that somehow survived it all, and the island’s surprisingly colorful cast of characters over the centuries, there is no shortage of stories to tell or beauty to share
What I love about most about guiding international visitors is seeing which threads grab them. Germans in my experience are thoughtful travelers who ask great questions and this group was no exception. Thanks so much to Timo, their fun group leader, who acted as translator and later sent me a great video of the group excitedly watching a soccer game that night.
The World Cup has brought an incredible wave of global visitors to Houston, and getting to share a piece of Texas history and culture with them feels like the best kind of bonus
Safe travels, and come back to see us soon!
