“Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 (New International Version) How many times during the course of life have we gone to God requesting His endorsement of our own plan and agenda, only to find out that our plan was not within His plan or purpose? There is no surprise when our plans don't come to fruition; we soon discover that the time spent seeking our own personal ambitions could have been much better served seeking the plan of God. Instead of asking God "What's your plan?" we have often placed our petitions before Him and declared to him, "Okay God here's my plan." God's plan for our life is uniquely interwoven into our purpose. Our purpose consists of the design, reason, and intent for our existence on the face of the earth. The first phase of God's purpose for our life is fulfilled when we participate in His plan of salvation. This is accomplished by accepting the finished work of Calvary and His Son Jesus as our personal Savior. At that precise moment, God's plan for our life begins to unfold. His plan will continue to be fulfilled if we are willing to live our life according to His purpose. Solomon's wisdom in our text reveals the heart of man as the seat of our passion and emotions. It is the place of personal inclinations, private resolutions, and the determination of our will. Plans that we devise in our heart, no matter what the intent or objective will never come to pass unless it fulfills God's purpose for our life. "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) Before you make any more plans, lay out another blueprint, or devise any more cleverly thought out strategies for personal success or fulfillment, consider the power of God's purpose. He uniquely created us for a specific purpose that He determined before we entered our mother's womb. Nothing brings Him more honor and glory than when His purpose for our life is fulfilled. The guarantee of God's purpose being fulfilled in our life is so powerful that His word says, "....in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV) When we plan according to His purpose, the design, reason, and intent for our life that He has ordained will always prevail.

“And they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their heads had not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of smoke was not on them.” Daniel 3:27b (NKJV) The fiery trials of life are sure to come, and they cannot be avoided. You can run, hide, postpone the event of testing, yet it is one that cannot be canceled. A simple definition of a fiery trial is “a trial that is on fire.” In I Peter 4:12, Peter says that fiery trials are not strange. The three Hebrew boys were facing a fiery trial all of their own. The root cause was their bold defiance of King Nebuchadnezzer’s order to bow down to the golden image that he had constructed when prompted by the symphonic instruments of that day. They would not compromise their values nor betray the faith that they had in the Lord God who knows how to deliver. When faced with the choice of the fiery furnace or failing in their faith they chose the former. Here’s their response. “But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” Daniel 3:18 (NKJV) Perhaps you could characterize it as a “relationship response.” They responded to what they knew about their God. Defiant even to the point that led them to conclude that they knew that God was able to deliver them, He would deliver them, and even if He didn’t they would still not bow down. As a result of their response they were thrown into the fiery furnace, but they were not alone. Jesus, the Son of God himself shows up in pre-incarnate form to deliver them and set them free. The fiery furnace that was to consume them and ultimately destroy them was heated up 7 times its normal temperature. The normal firing temperature of a brick firing furnace is typically 1832 degrees Fahrenheit. Heated 7 times that temperature would be 12,824 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat of this fiery trial was so intense that it actually killed the men that threw them in. But look at God work. The three Hebrew boys not only withstood the flames with the help of Jesus. But they came out just like they went in. They didn’t look like what they had been through. Hallelujah! No evidence of the flames, the heat, the destruction, or the stench of smoke. God will deliver us through the fiery trials of life.

“I don’t mind waiting on the Lord. I don’t mind waiting on the Lord. I don’t mind waiting. I don’t mind waiting. I don’t mind waiting on the Lord.” Good Morning our most holy and sovereign Heavenly Father. What a wonderful day that you have graced us to see, as a result of your new mercy towards us. How can we even begin to thank you enough for all that you have done and all that you have been to us. Here we are today still in need, still in want. Trying desperately to navigate through these last and evil days. Waiting, trusting, and hoping that our most recent prayers will soon be found with an answer. But until then Father, we are willing to wait. Help us Father, because our flesh and mind are trying to lure us into taking matters into our own hands. Please help us and teach us how to wait. Remind us that our waiting on you is never in vain. Father if you will, please teach us how to wait until you answer and until our change comes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
