Terry’s Pool Tip of the Day,
Starting up a freshly filled pool:
( Note: if pool was replastered,
Brush the pool each day for
2 weeks )
Day 1:
Once the pool is filled.
Add 2 quarts of sequester to pool perimeter,
Dosage is 1 quart per 10k gals water,
My preference is
Orenda SC-1000
Test the pH and adjust to ideal level of
7.4 to 7.6
Add 3” chlorine tabs to floaters
Day 2:
Add 2 gallons of
Liquid Stabilizer
“Conditioner”
Add thru the skimmer
Dosage is 1 gal per 10k gals water.
Day 3:
Backwash the filter thoroughly and recharge with DE,
Add 3 gallons of liquid chlorine around pool perimeter
( 12% sodium hypochlorite )
Day 5:
Lab test the pool and see what the calcium hardness level is,
Needs to be ideal of :
210 ppm,
The lab test should tell you how much hardness increaser to add.
Day 7
Have the pool lab tested again and ck to see if stabilizer CYA level is at ideal.
Ideal is 40 to 80 range,
The goal is to get the CYA level to 40 / 50ppm
Keep pH at ideal level
@ 7.4 to 7.6
Keep alkalinity at ideal level @ 80 to 120 ppm
After 2 weeks,
Have the pool tested for
Phosphate level
If it’s high then add
Phosphate Remover
Follow the label on the dosage requirement.
I like Orenda PR 10,000
to lower phosphate levels.
Try to get 1-2 quarts on hand
After adding phosphate remover, you will need to backwash the filter every 2 days for the week,
After a week,
Take filter apart and clean the filter.
When shocking the pool I suggest using
Liquid Chlorine
1 gal per 10k
Run the filter pump from
8am to 8pm
Run cleaner daily
10am to 2pm
