When I work with a new model who has no experience, I immediately help them get out of their head and into their body (because let’s be real, overthinking never helps anyone).

First, I ask them what kind of music makes them feel confident. We blast those tunes and might even throw in a few dance moves. Hey, the goal is to have fun and create art - who said you can’t do both?

Next, I give small pointers to help guide them through the shoot. Hand gestures to communicate angles, mirroring, or even suggesting little movements. No one wants to feel like they’re left in the dark or stuck in an awkward pose for eternity.

Finally, encouragement! We all want to know if we’re doing a good job. Even if the pose isn’t quite hitting it, I make sure to show love for their effort and gently guide them into a new one. Trust me, it works like magic.

The secret to a successful photoshoot with new models is all about the photographer’s attitude. Create a positive, creative space where both you and the model can laugh, grow, and try new things. After all, you’re making art, not just taking photos!
