AR Defensive Rifle Course, Saturday, September 21, 2024, 9 am to 5 pm, HGC 100 yard range.
Accepting registrations Now!
Only 12 Seats Available
COST: $125 per student. Students should bring an AR platform rifle that is zeroed at 50 or 100 yards, 150 rounds of quality ammunition, along with their defensive handgun with holster and 50 rounds of ammunition.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The AR platform is the most widely purchased defensive rifle sold today. Owning one however does not translate into competency (just like purchasing a piano does not make one a musician.) This course will cover the safe operation and handling of the AR platform as a defensive/general purpose rifle. Students will learn proper loading/unloading, clearing malfunctions and fundamentals of accurate shooting from a variety of positions to include standing, kneeling, seated and prone. We will discuss/demonstrate sighting systems, magazines, weapon lights, slings, suppressors and other accessories for the platform. Student will practice rifle to pistol transition drills. The rifles will be shot from room- length distances to 100 yards (this is not a benchrest course.) Students will have an opportunity to shoot the Patrol Rifle Qualification course used by a large metropolitan Detroit police department. Additionally, those that successfully pass will be eligible to compete at the Center Mass National Patrol Rifle Championship on Saturday October 19th in Commerce Twp., MI. This course will satisfy the prerequisite training requirement for this match.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Students should bring a quality centerfire AR platform rifle. Iron sights, red dot or low-power variable magnification optic (LPVO) are all appropriate sighting systems for this class. If you bring a caliber other than 223/5.56 or 9mm please bring at least five dummy rounds for that caliber (examples, 300 blackout, 7.62x39, etc.) We will have dummy rounds in 223/5.56 and 9mm for students to use during class. Your rifle should be equipped with a two point or single point sling that allows the shooter to go hands-off the rifle while standing and maintain a safe muzzle direction (the sling is to the rifle what the holster is to the pistol.)
INSTRUCTORS: Mark Stout is a former U.S. Army Infantry Paratrooper and worked a variety of assignments over a 30 year full-time law enforcement career including patrol, investigations, administration and training. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was a 14 year member of his department's Special Response Team with assignments including entry team, entry team leader, sniper team leader, and SRT commander. For the majority of his career he was assigned as a fi****ms instructor and has attended many of the top shooting schools in the country (Rogers, Gunsite, Lethal Force Institute, Vickers Tactical, Haley Strategic, Surefire/Simunitions, etc.) He is an avid competitive shooter having won multiple, national, state and regional championships. He is the only three time winner of the National Patrol Rifle Competition. During his career, he has trained thousands of students, both civilian and law enforcement, in fi****ms skills and issues related to the use of deadly force.
