As winter begins to energetically thaw, I’ve been thinking about forward movement. About how quickly it turns into effort.
Into holding.
Into making sure nothing slips.

Run your life.
Stay on top of it.
Be the one in charge.

There’s strength in that stance. It builds structure. It builds continuity.

But there is a particular dryness that comes when being in charge becomes the only acceptable posture.

In Jungian depth psychology, the ego gives us a sense of “I.” It organizes conscious life. It allows us to function in the world.

It also imagines itself.

The capable one.
The steady one.
The one who must not falter.

And when that image becomes fixed, something quiet recedes.

Intimacy.

Intimacy with what is moving underneath the surface.
With desire before it’s strategic.
With grief before it’s managed.
With the subtle currents that don’t announce themselves as goals.

The psyche is larger than the role we’re playing.

When the ego tightens around one fantasy, the soul doesn’t disappear. It just stops being consulted.

That’s the dryness.
A thinning of relationship.

Jung’s image of the artist keeps coming back to me.

Artistry feels like influence that moves both ways.

Less management.
More relationship.

The artist, in Jung’s imagination, isn’t someone who dominates the material. She stays in contact with it. She lets herself be affected.

There’s something about the image of the artist that loosens things for me. Not as identity. Just as orientation. As a willingness to let what I’m shaping shape me back.

I don’t think this is about becoming less powerful.

It feels more like letting power breathe.
That contact is what restores depth.

So if you’re feeling dry, the question may not be about productivity or discipline.

It may be about relationship.

This is the time, it has always been the time, of daring to transmute together. I don’t need to tell you about the rage, the grief, the fear, the numbness that can riddle the bones that carry you through collective and personal terrains of this moment of being alive. And I am not here to give you infographics about healing that can stay locked in spectator mode of the ego, nor lecture you from the cool seat of my scholarship and experience. I am here to conjure the power of liberated life force together. To hold, guide, contain, pressurize, discern, dilute, amplify, loosen, build, consecrate, and celebrate full-bloodied living through the female form. Shoulder to shoulder, alongside, immersed in the field that is part and parcel of our mutual freedom making on the exquisite terms of our own bodysouls.

I’ve been moving quietly through the last weeks of Snake, through the threshold of Fire Horse, meeting the form, the expression that has arrived.
