John Michael “Mike” Hughes

October 17, 1964 – April 25, 2025

John Michael Hughes, known to everyone as Mike, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and special friends in his final moments.

Born in Houston, Texas, Mike attended Nimitz High School and Stephen F.Austin. Mike was a proud and faithful member of Woodlands Oaks Church of Christ for many years, recently joining The Woodlands Methodist Church.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Lisa Taylor Hughes, and his two beloved sons, Zachary Chapman Hughes and Judson Campbell “Jake” Hughes. He is also remembered by many extended family members and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jay D. Hughes, his mother, Peggy Ann Chapman, and his mother-in-law, Betty Jo Campbell.

Mike had a lifelong passion for the real estate industry. In 1990, he acquired his first commercial property, The Village on Woodforest Boulevard on the east side of Houston, and owned and managed several rental properties. In 1999 he founded JDH Association Management Company. For over 30 years, Mike built and led several successful companies, always with a focus on serving others and building community. In 2021, he embarked on a new venture with CMI Association Management, continuing his mission of leadership and service.

Throughout his career, Mike was active in many professional and civic organizations, including the North Channel Rotary Club, The Woodlands Rotary Club, Community Association Institute, and many others. His energy and enthusiasm for both business and community service left an impact everywhere he went.

Beyond his professional life, Mike loved sports — especially cheering on his Houston Texans and Astros. Some of his best memories were made sitting with family in their living room or at the stadium, sharing their passion for the game. Mike also loved traveling with his family and close friends, creating countless adventures and memories, but his heart was always happiest at home.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 Interstate 45 S. The Woodlands, TX 77384. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with services to follow at 10:00 AM. Mike will be laid to rest at his family cemetery, Strong Cemetery, in Henderson, Texas, among generations of loved ones.

Pallbearers honoring Mike’s memory will be Russell Hughes, Rusty Hughes, Ramey Chapman, Jacob Chapman, Ryan Lambeth and Craig Briscoe.

This is not goodbye — it’s simply “see you later.” Mike’s family and friends will continue to carry forward his memory, his spirit, and his legacy with love and gratitude.

Okay backyard gardeners, this is your weekend! As we look ahead to the next 10 days, we shouldn't get anywhere near freezing, and we think the risk of an additional freeze is extremely low on this side of summer.

In fact, after March 10th we've been done with freezes in 80% of the years going back to 1889 and in all but one year going back to the year 2000. We can't entirely rule out a late season frost (when the measured temp 6 feet above ground gets down to 36°), but it's looking more and more like the "spring feel" settling in is the real deal.

We'll keep you posted if we see any chances of a freeze/frost on the horizon!

As for that weekend forecast, check it out here:
