“What if I do it wrong and get sued?”

This is the number one fear people share with us during class. It is completely understandable—stepping in during a life-or-empty crisis is intimidating enough without worrying about legal trouble.

But here is the truth that every bystander needs to know:
MYTH: You can be sued or held legally liable if you perform CPR or use an AED incorrectly during an emergency.
FACT: Good Samaritan laws exist in Texas and across the country specifically to protect everyday citizens who step up to help someone in good faith.

The law understands that you aren't a doctor in a hospital; you are a caring community member doing your best in a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. The only real mistake you can make is doing nothing at all. When someone's heart stops, intervention is their absolute best chance at survival until professional medical personnel arrive.

At Upbeat CPR, we don't just teach you the physical mechanics of chest compressions—we give you the knowledge and personal confidence to act without hesitation.

We bring premium, stress-free CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses directly to your location. As a fully mobile training service, we make it simple for families, local businesses, coaches, and childcare providers to learn these life-saving skills in a comfortable environment.

Don't let fear hold you back from saving a life.

Need a mobile CPR certification class near you? Our instructors proudly serve the Greater Houston area, including Friendswood, Humble, and surrounding communities.

In the movies, drowning is full of splashing and shouting for help. But in reality? Drowning is almost always silent.

As we head into the 2026 swim season here in the Houston metroplex, it’s vital to know that once a person begins to struggle, they physically cannot call out. Their body’s only focus is gasping for air.

The Signs of "Silent" Drowning:
🚫 No Splashing: They may look like they are "climbing" an invisible ladder.
🚫 Head Low in Water: Mouth at water level, head tilted back with mouth open.
🚫 Glassy Eyes: Unfocused, or eyes closed entirely.
🚫 Hyperventilation: Gasping or labored breathing.
🚫 Vertical Position: No leg movement or kicking; they are upright in the water.

What to Do Next:
If you pull someone from the water and they are unresponsive and not breathing, you are the bridge to their survival. Immediate CPR is non-negotiable.

At Upbeat CPR, we include swimming pool CPR training for families in Friendswood, Katy, and beyond during our Heartsaver First Aid training. We bring our mobile gear to your backyard or community center to ensure every "Water Guardian" is ready to act.

Don't just watch the water—actively monitor those in the water.

In high-impact sports like football, soccer, and volleyball across the Houston metroplex, a "ding" or "getting your bell rung" is never just part of the game. Concussions are brain injuries, and rapid recognition is the most critical first aid step.

If an athlete takes a significant blow to the head, remember the STOP Method:
🛑 S = STOP: Immediately pull them from play. No delay.
🗣️ T = TALK: Look for confusion, slurred speech, or repeating questions. Ask simple, direct questions about time and place.
👀 O = OBSERVE: Watch for physical symptoms. Severe headache, nausea, 🌀 dizziness, or 👁️ dilated/uneven pupils are immediate red flags.
🚫 P = PREVENT: NEVER allow an athlete with a suspected head injury back on the field. They must be cleared by a licensed medical professional.

At Upbeat CPR, we’re dedicated to building safer high school sports communities in Friendswood, Katy, and beyond. Our specialized first aid certification covers concussion recognition and initial care, empowering coaches, trainers, and parents to act with confidence.

Swipe through to master the STOP protocol and make safety the real win this season!

Most of us use our Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, or Google Pixel Watch just to check notifications or count daily steps. But did you know your wrist-wear is packed with medical-grade tech designed around the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines? 🫀⌚

The AHA highlights "Life's Essential 8" as the ultimate blueprint for a healthy heart—and your wearable is the perfect tool to track them. Here is how to turn that tech into your personal health coach:

🏃‍♂️ Hit Your 150: The AHA recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week. Don’t just guess—use your watch’s Heart Rate Zones (Cardio/Peak) to make sure your brisk walks, cycling, or runs are hitting the right intensity.
💤 The 7-Hour Sweet Spot: Sleep is when your blood pressure drops and your heart recovers. Use native sleep staging to track your light, deep, and REM cycles to ensure you’re getting 7–9 hours of quality rest.
📈 Watch Your Vitals: From tracking your Resting Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) to logging manual blood pressure and glucose trends, your phone’s health dashboard is a living report card for your cardiovascular system.

Small changes on your wrist lead to massive victories for your heart.

While Memorial Day has become the unofficial start of summer, for so many families in the Houston metroplex and across our nation, it is a day of profound remembrance. Today, we don’t just "celebrate"—we honor.

We honor the men and women who stood in the gap, the ones who gave their tomorrows so we could have our today's. They are the reason we have the freedom to gather, the safety to play, and the peace to build our communities.

To the families in our Houston community who are missing a seat at their table today: We see you. We remember them. We are forever grateful.

From our family at Upbeat CPR to yours, may your day be filled with reflection, gratitude, and the company of those you love.

“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.”
