While some positive trends have developed this afternoon, Huntington County remains under a Level 3 of 5 (Enhanced Risk) for severe weather today and tonight.
Recent forecast updates show a reduction in the overall severe weather threat across parts of northern Indiana, and ongoing rainfall may help limit instability in some areas. However, conditions remain favorable for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.
Potential hazards include:
• Damaging winds
• Large hail
• Isolated tornadoes
• Heavy rainfall and localized flooding
The greatest threat window remains this afternoon through tonight. Forecasts can continue to change, so now is the time to review your severe weather safety plan and ensure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

⚠️ WEATHER UPDATE FOR HUNTINGTON COUNTY – WEDNESDAY ⚠️
Huntington County remains under a Level 3 (Enhanced) Risk for severe weather today and tonight. Residents should closely monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
Round 1: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM EDT
• Primary Hazard: Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph
• Large hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out
• Confidence in severe weather: Low
Round 2: 5:00 PM – Midnight EDT
• Damaging winds in excess of 70 mph possible
• Large hail
• Torrential rainfall and localized flooding
• Tornadoes possible, including the potential for strong tornadoes
• Confidence in severe weather: Medium to High
⚠️ A Flood Watch has been issued, and the tornado threat area has expanded north and east. Significant straight-line wind damage is possible across all of northern Indiana.
Huntington County Emergency Management has multiple preparedness measures in place ahead of tonight’s weather event, including:
✅ Coordination calls with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS)
✅ Coordination calls with the National Weather Service Northern Indiana
✅ Activation of the Huntington County Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
✅ Damage assessment teams and supplies prepared for rapid deployment
✅ Continuous weather monitoring throughout the event
✅ Ongoing coordination with public safety partners, utilities, and local officials
