✨ Some dogs wait days. Some wait weeks. And then there are the unicorns. ✨

Every once in a while, a dog comes along that completely steals your heart, yet somehow continues to be overlooked. R***r was one of those dogs.

In May 2023, R***r and his four siblings were found dumped on a dirt road, fighting for their lives against Parvo. They were just puppies. Tragically, one sibling didn’t survive, and R***r and his brother were critically ill. One by one, his siblings found families… but R***r remained.

Days turned into months. Months turned into years.

For three years, R***r watched countless dogs leave while he stayed behind. He became a shelter favorite, attended community events, appeared on television, and greeted every day with the same gentle spirit. Somehow, through all the heartbreak, he never lost hope.

Then everything changed.

When Kelly Jo from Zoomies walked past his kennel, she immediately saw what made R***r so extraordinary.

“He had great kennel presentation, soft eyes, and was very calm and composed… I was just astounded that he was unbreakable despite everything. It’s such a rare, special thing.”

She brought R***r to Zoomies, where he continued to prove that despite spending three years in a shelter, his heart remained wide open. Kelly Jo never stopped believing in him or advocating for him.

And after three more months… the call finally came.

“Yes.”

Walking With Honor saw exactly what Kelly Jo saw a once-in-a-lifetime dog with the perfect temperament to become a service dog for a veteran living with PTSD.

Now R***r is beginning the next chapter of his journey. He still has training ahead before meeting the veteran whose life he’ll change forever, but this time, every step forward has a purpose.

After everything he’s endured, R***r didn’t just find a home…

He found a calling.

As he loaded onto transport, we couldn’t help but imagine him looking back with those familiar soft eyes, saying, “I made it.” ❤️
