One of the reasons we're looking forward to KC Nerd Fest is because every table has a story.

Sometimes it's an author who finally published the book they've been dreaming about for years.

Sometimes it's an artist who decided to share their work for the first time.

Sometimes it's a comic creator introducing characters they've carried around in their imagination for decades.

Sometimes it's a maker who turned "I wonder if I can make this..." into "I can't believe people actually want one."

That's our favorite part.

You can walk in looking for something cool...
..and walk out with the story behind the person who created it.

If you visit a creator at KC Nerd Fest, ask them one question:

"How did you get started?"

We have a feeling you'll leave with a much better story than the one you came in with.

One thing we've learned about the KC Book Beat team...

They're dreamers.

They're the kind of people who hear, "That'll never work," and immediately start asking, "Okay...but what if it did?"

When they started talking about KC Nerd Fest, they could have built an event around books and called it a day.

Instead, they started asking bigger questions.

What about the comic creator working on their first issue?

The artist filling sketchbooks that deserve to be seen?

The maker creating incredible things in a garage or spare bedroom?

The cosplayer who spent months bringing a character to life?

The game designer with an idea scribbled on a napkin?

Why shouldn't they all have a place to belong?

So they built one.

And in a few days, we'll get to watch hundreds of creative people fill Independence with stories, imagination, and a whole lot of wonderfully nerdy energy.

We're pretty excited to be one small part of it.
