Happy 529 Day- otherwise known as, National Education Savings Day!

A 529 Plan is a triple-tax advantaged account that allows you to save money for your own or someone else's future education. Here's a few more things you may not have known about these plans:

Earnings in a 529 plan generally grow tax-deferred. Qualified withdrawals may be federally tax-free when used for certain qualified education expenses (generally tuition, fees, books, supplies/equipment, and—if certain requirements are met—room and board for eligible students; limited K–12 tuition may also qualify).

Some education-related expenses may qualify for tax-free 529 withdrawals depending on the plan and current law (for example, certain apprenticeship program costs and eligible vocational/technical school expenses). Whether items like test fees or credentialing/certification costs qualify depends on the specific program and applicable rules. Consult a tax professional about direct tax-related questions pertaining to 529 plans.

Depending on your state, 529 contributions may be eligible for a state tax deduction or credit, subject to limits and rules.

Still thinking about the Greater Cleveland Partnership IGNITE conference that I was able to attend last week. What an amazing time I had not only listening to the inspiring messages from Mayor Justin Bibb, CEO Baiju Shah and other renowned leaders in the community, but also networking with my local peers in the business and nonprofit space to discuss ways to collaborate on a shared vision of an improved economic output for all greater Cleveland residents.

I’m grateful and excited to be a part of the sustainable development and growth opportunities that are coming our way in the future.. As a fellow Clevelander, I always believed our community has world-class potential.
