How the winter to summer here in Indiana has impacted so many hoosiers.

*The extreme freeze-thaw-freeze cycles—like the brutal record-breaking cold in mid-December, followed by unseasonable warmth for Christmas, and a flash-freeze in January —wreaked havoc on Indianapolis pool plumbing and pool chemistry. These swings cause underground pipes to expand and contract, creating microscopic leaks. This lets trapped water seep out or air get sucked in, compromising your winter cover and lowering water levels.

*Here is exactly how this weather creates a perfect storm for white water mold and green algae:-Chlorine Dilution & Depletion: Melting snow and rain alter the water chemistry, and the fluctuating temperatures degrade your sanitizer. Once chlorine levels drop below 1.0 ppm, algae spores awaken and thrive.Ideal Incubation: Algae and white water mold (a naturally occurring fungus) thrive when water temperatures hover in the 50 to 60°F range. The warm spikes give them the perfect incubation period before your pool opens. Circulation Dead Zones: Air leaks and failing pool seals (caused by the freeze-thaw cycles) ruin your pump's prime. Without proper filtration and circulation, mold and algae take over the shadowy corners of the plumbing lines.
